Razor E175 Electric Scooter Review

The Razor E175 is a solid performer for the smaller or younger rider. Geared to the 8-12 yr old market, this electric scooter is a great introduction to powered riding or for light duty use.

With its pneumatic tires in both front and back and 120 lb max weight rating, it’s not the choice for larger riders or for rougher terrain. But for the younger set around the subdivision, the E175 could be a fine choice.

As with most Razor age recommendations, they tend to run a little high. A properly trained, equipped, and supervised 6 or 7 year old could handle this if they’re ready. As always, use your best judgment.

This model is available in the red model shown at left, as well as  in pink, as shown to the right. Both come with free shipping at Amazon.

Features of the Razor E175

  • 8 inch width and 18 inch length of the deck for comfortable operation
  • Averages up to 10 miles or even more on a single charge
  • Hand brake and throttle on handlebar for intuitive operation
  • Up to 40 minutes of continuous use, keeping you on the road
  • Motor engages with an easy kickoff to 3 mph
  • High torque motor to get you going as quick as possible
  • Max speed up to 10 mph, keeping younger riders safer and in control

Other specs

  • Includes two 12 volt sealed lead acid batteries and battery charger
  • Battery charge time 12 hours
  • 125 mm polyurethane rear wheel and an 8″ pneumatic front tire
  • Dimensions: Height: 36.0 “; Length: 35.5 “; Width: 16.0 “
  • Product Weight: 29.0 Lb.

Again, this kid-friendly scooter is ideal to get around the neighborhood, heading over to a friend’s house, or going to the park. Older users or those who need faster speed, higher end performance, etc., would probably be better off with the Razor E300 or similar model, though.

An actual user puts this scooter to the test

Ok, it’s not the most exciting video (the rider just goes in a few circles), but it does show how easy the kickoff start is, how quick it gets up to speed, and a little on the maneuverability. This rider is probably at the top end of the age/weight scale – AND SHOULD BE WEARING A HELMET!!  🙂

Things that are great about it:
  • Solid performance, reliable Razor quality
  • Speed limits and size to match younger/smaller riders
  • Easy to assemble and use, lightweight
  • Adjustable handlebars for easy fit and use
Things that could be better:
  • Kids may outgrow it relatively quickly
  • Users have noted that chain cover can scrape ground during sharp turns
  • Good but but not spectacular battery life and performance

Again, this model still requires a small kickoff start. Not the end of the world, but many riders like the convenience of a standing start.

Actual users are very pleased

P. Coronado (an actual, Amazon-verified buyer) states:

This is a very well made scooter, almost worked out of the box, we just received it 4 days ago and my son is enjoying it already. The specs says it runs for 40 minutes but it can run longer than that, battery charge does not seem to take 12 hours either(until the light on the charger turns green). One thing i did not like about it is that the plastic protective cover for the chain is so close to the ground that is almost impossible to make right turns without the thing touching the floor, not really sure how this did not come up during testing stages, this is obviously a design error, other than that it just works perfect.

Differences with other entry-level Razor scooters

Final note: this review admittedly sounds a LOT like those for the more common Razor E100 or the Razor E125.  If you’re confused whether to go with those or the E175, don’t be. As far as we can tell, they’re all pretty much the exact same scooter.

It just seems that different brick-and-mortar retailers get different models (the E175 is found at Target, etc). Amazon sells them all, and I’ve tried to make the reviews a bit different (different user reviews, videos, etc) to give you a better feel for it. But the only difference seems to be the label.

The Razor E175 (or the nearly-identical E100/E125) is a good choice for the light-duty, average younger or smaller rider. It gets you there fast enough to have fun, but not fast enough to be a menace on the street or sidewalk. Especially for lighter or younger kids, this entry level model may be all the scooter they need.

Please note:  The buyer and rider of this or any scooter are responsible for knowing and obeying all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the riding and use of scooters.
